Dead as a Doornail

Yep, another Sookie Stackhouse book. Sorry. I have two more after this one and then I believe I have to wait till the spring for the latest addition. It's been awhile since I've had to wait for a book to come out. Ah well.

Dead as a Doornail follows Sookie as she tries to find a sniper that is targeting shapeshifters. In fact, some of the shifter community think that Sookie's brother may be to blame and so she has to race against the clock (or full moon) to prove her brother innocent. In addition to the sniping issues, ANOTHER fan of Sookie comes along at the very end, Quinn, who is a weretiger (yeah, they're not wereWOLVES unless they actually become WOLVES).

I think it's truly amazing how many men (well, half men, in this case) are into Sookie. The woman has multiple vampires, shifters AND a werewolf all into her. The girl has GAME. The funny thing, though, is that it doesn't ever seem to go to her head. Throughout all these novels my favorite thing about Sookie is that she stays true to herself. You feed her BS and she's not going to deal with it. Let's just say that Sookie is not one of those girls that you boys could sweet talk and she'd be ready to jump into bed with you. Or... maybe she WOULD jump into bed with you but that doesn't mean she'll fall in love.

Ah! Can't wait for honeymoon reading to begin!

Honeymoon Reads

Anyone who knows me knows that I must always have a book with me - and going on a trip means MULTIPLE books.

Dustin's a little put out that I plan on bringing five books with me on our honeymoon but think of it - two days spent in airports, all those days sitting in the sun not to mention the fact that we can be alone THE WHOLE TIME (or can we).

So here are the books I'll be taking. A couple Sookie Stackhouse books, two YA books and a chick lit book. I think I'm good to go...

Definitely Dead and All Together Dead by Charlaine Harris

Just Listen and This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen

Remember Me by Sophie Kinsella

Dead to the World

Dead to the World

Dead to the World is the forth Sookie Stackhouse book and I find that book after book I love her more and more! In this book Sookie's ex, Bill, leaves her to go to Peru and instead Sookie finds herself stuck with Eric, Bill's boss, who has amnesia due to the curse of a witch. Yes, a witch. Aside from there being Werewolves, shapeshifters and vampires there are also witches AND faries. Most of the witches can be fairly decent but there is a coven out to get Eric's business and since he can't seem to remember anything Sookie is stuck vampire sitting. In the meantime, Sookie's brother is missing. So yes, all kinds of trouble, drama AND adventure in this book!

I say it every time but I love these books. They're fairly light reads, that contain a lot of excitement and Sookie's love interests are YUMMY. I actually have to say I like Eric better with the amnesia and I kind of hope he stays the same, sweet guy that he was for most of this book.

In the third Sookie Stackhouse novel, Sookie's boyfriend Bill is missing (and most likely is cheating on her too). So Sookie decides to help Bill's boss Eric find him. Sookie meets a werewolf, Alcide, and together they go to Club Dead to find answers.

I'm really, really liking Sookie and the different men in her life (Bill, Eric and Alcide) are just as amazing! While I've said before, nothing can compare to the love story of Bella and Edward, Sookie had these amazing adventures and men just banging down her door to fight for her (and that's pretty literal). She's a strong character and she doesn't take anyone's shit (pardon my French). I really think she's someone to look up to and this 3rd book is just as good as the first two!

Also, I just finished watching the first season on True Blood and I can't believe I have to wait till next summer for the next season! I already know what happens but it's pretty cool to see the characters come to life!

Living Dead in Dallas

Living Dead in Dallas

Okay, it's official: I am a Sookie Stackhouse fan.

The second Sookie book takes place in Dallas, Texas. Well, for the most part. Sookie and Bill travel to Dallas to help the Dallas vamps find one of their own, Ferrel, who was kidnapped. Sookie, of course, is brought along because of her ability to read mind (something that seems to come in handy for the vampires).

I liked this book A LOT. After reading the first Sookie novel I was unsure if I would even want to continue the series. While I do like Sookie's character and the first novel was interesting it lacked something for me. I think it's because I really wanted these books to be more like Twilight and they just AREN'T. So I think I've gotten over that (although I have to say that Bill in no Edward) and now I'm enjoying the novels more.

Also, I'm watching the first season of True Blood online (the HBO series based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels). Pretty good if you can get past the softcore porn.
